Rick G. Sorenson

Rick Sorenson, President of McDonald Sanders, brings significant legal experience to the table when representing the firm's clients. Rick provides a perspective which draws from his experience handling a wide range of business transactions, controversies and litigation; providing seasoned representation in the boardroom as well as in the courtroom. Rick's legal experience in real estate, construction and energy (oil, gas and electric) and commercial litigation is extensive and includes special focus on Commercial Real Estate Law and Civil Trial Law, areas in which he has held board certification since 1993. He also has significant experience working with clients in business formation, corporate governance, operations, financing, contracting, sales, acquisitions, employment matters and related litigation.

Representative Experience

  • Represented clients in conjunction with real estate sales, purchases, development, construction and related dispute resolution and litigation.
  • Advised clients in oil and gas negotiations, including leasing, operations, purchase and sale of oil and gas properties, participations and related dispute resolution and litigation.
  • Counseled lenders and borrowers in areas ranging from loan documentation, bank formation, to related dispute resolution and litigation.
  • Represented land owners in condemnation negotiations and litigation, including proceedings related to the development of the Barnett Shale and the CREZ transmission project (including representation before the PUC and in related condemnation negotiations).
  • Advised one of Texas' largest electric cooperatives, handling full range of matters, including governance, operations, contracting (including electric service, franchise and construction agreements) and litigation.
  • Represented local governmental entity with respect to a $29+ million dollar college branch campus project, including land acquisition, construction of facilities and infrastructure and the leasing of the campus to the applicable college district.
  • Advised major university in conjunction with its building projects, including in excess of $450+ million in new facilities and upgrades.
  • Represented clients in the health care and nursing home industry, with such representation including landlord/tenant issues, ownership transfers, related licensure and other regulatory issues.
  • Provided counsel to motor vehicle dealerships with respect to operations, sales, purchases, licensure and other aspects of regulatory compliance.
